to the Queer Comics Blog!
My name is Devin Whitlock. Back in 2012, I covered comic book literature for the queer media and arts review site goovertherainbow.com. Sadly, that website is no longer with us but I’ve decided to revive the blog I wrote for it. From my introduction way back then:
As a website devoted
to artistic criticism, we want to make sure no medium is marginalized and
comics are no exception. Great art has been produced from an LGBTQ perspective in
this form that deserves recognition. With the advent of autobiographical and
underground comics in the 1970s, there was exponential growth in terms of
queer content and artistic expression…As both comics and the LGBT community
strive for mainstream acceptance, Go Over the Rainbow is excited to feature art
that our readers are sure to enjoy, including limited or ongoing series, long
form graphic novels, or single issues…I look forward to either introducing
unknown work to our readers or discussing beloved favorites…Once a month, we
will be presenting a brief note on a piece of comic art that should be of
particular interest to the LGBTQ community.
Every third Thursday, I’ll be posting a short piece about a particular
comic book of interest to the LGBT community. For the first few months, I’ll repost
some of my favorites from the old blog but more original material will be
forthcoming. If there’s a demand for more content, I may expand. Of course, if
I get even one regular reader I’ll probably do whatever that person wants.
Also, suggestions are always welcome. If there’s an LGBT-themed comic you’d
like covered, please let me know!
Finally, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to my
dear friend Sawyer Lahr, the webmaster for goovertherainbow.com who took a
chance and helped me reach a whole new level in my professional life. ขอบคุณ, Sawyer. I am forever in your debt.
